Letters to Norah // 5 months

Hello, Norah.

You're 5 months old today, baby girl.

5 months should mean seeing you babbling, sitting up, and maybe even rolling.

Instead, 5 months for us means an uncomfortable ease to daily life, a deafening silence where your coos and cries should be, and far too many days since the last time you were in our arms.

But it's not all sad; you've done so much good and we're so incredibly proud of you.

You're way beyond rolling over or sitting up; you're changing lives.

This month:

You pushed me out of my comfort zone.

A few weeks ago I attended a writer's conference.

Norah, I truly feel that it's my purpose in life to tell your story, to use this voice you've given me. And darling, I will do everything in my power to honor you the best I can.

I plan on writing a book, but I have so much to learn about that process first. This conference was a great first step; it opened the door and gave me a to-do list.

Thank you for pushing me, for helping me to acknowledge and settle into this purpose, this drive that comes from you, from God.

You inspired more ink.

Your daddy got his first tattoo, and it's in honor of you! It's always been clear that you are your daddy's girl, but sweetheart, he is totally wrapped around your finger and would do absolutely anything for you. He is so, so proud to wear your name on his arm.

Every day he gets to see your name and remember the strength of his fierce little girl who is changing the world from her playground in heaven.

Some people say, "be strong like daddy."
Norah, your daddy is strong like you.

This truly was a family day at the park. When we were there, there was a family with a little girl named Norah running around. We knew you were there, love.

You gave back.

As of right now, including the check from the second batch of shirts that is still on its way, $3,725 has been raised for the Ronald McDonald House in your name.

$3,725.

That number brings us to our knees.

That number will do so. much. good.

That number puts Team Norah in first place for fundraising for the RMH Family Walk, and we still have until Friday to raise money!

We are definitely the loud parents, cheering obnoxiously from the stands, filled with a healthy mix of competition and pride for our little MVP. Sports, fundraising, it's all the same, right?

This total doesn't include the $345 check still on its way from the second batch of shirts

Being able to give back in such a huge way to an organization that means so much to us has been a truly moving and incredible experience. We've felt the love that donated dollars and time can provide, and it fills our hearts with so much joy to give back, knowing the impact this will have on families.

I can't wait to see Team Norah all together in their Fierce shirts for the Family Walk on Saturday. It will be an awesome way to spend my birthday – thank you, love.

Norah, we are so, so proud of everything you've accomplished in your 5 months.

We can't wait to see what you and God have planned next.
